A crane collapsed on Sunday, resulting in a portion of a part of an Foot Over Bridge collapsing in Mankhurd.

This resulted in a traffic jam on the highway.

The Mumbai police has tweeted about the incident. "The officers and staff of Mankhurd Traffic division have been already informed. Your traffic grievances can be directly sent to the dedicated WhatsApp helpline number 8454999999."

According to sources, certain portion of the FOB required repair and officials chose do the pending work on Sunday as the traffic flow is less. At 4.30 pm while the crane was fixing those portions, the carrying capacity of the machine was disturbed and lost its equilibrium due to which the crane and a portion of the bridge gave way.

The portion of the bridge towards Navi Mumbai side was cleared. Nobody was injured in the incident.

A portion of the  bridge was already broken following an accident few years back, the remaining half was left out to be removed from the space, so the authorities decided to remove that part today. One lane on the Sion Panvel Highway has been affected, causing a traffic jam in the area.

According to PWD the bridge was around 5-6 years old, and half the portion on the Mumbai-bound lane of the Sion-Panvel highway was damaged by a truck and dismantled last year.  The PWD has taken block from traffic of around two hours after the incident. The FOB PWD plans to construct  a new bridge there.
