Mumbai: Action will be taken against those behind road cave-in in Wadala society, assures Fadnavis

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday assured that action would be taken against those responsible behind the wall construction that resulted in a cave-in and the subsequent burial of 15 vehicles in Wadala on June 25.

Fadnavis, however, added that since the Bombay High Court had already appointed a court commissioner to probe the incident, an additional inquiry was unnecessary.

Fadnavis was responding to calling attention motion moved by members Sunil Shinde, Abu Azmi, Ajay Chaudhari, Sada Sarvankar, Sunil Prabhu, Ashish Shelar, Parag Alavani, Aslam Shaikh, Sardar Tara Singh and others. The members pointed out that despite the fact that it was the first incident of cave in which resulted in burial of vehicles. Members said that the incident has underlined inexcusable neglect of safety norms and safety rules while undertaking construction activity. They demanded immediate action against the Dosti Realty and the concerned officials of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation ward office who are responsible for this incident.

On June 25, the wall of an under-construction building collapsed into neighbouring Lloyd’s Estate, resulting in the road within the residential complex caving in and burying 15 vehicles. The Antop Hill police registered a case against Dosti Realty, the real estate company behind the wall construction.

The Bombay High Court-appointed commissioner also informed that the incident did not have any impact on the overall foundation of the 32-storey Lloyd’s Estate. Fadnavis further informed that after a writ petition on this incident, the Bombay High Court had appointed IIT Mumbai director for finding the reasons of the incident and submitting a comprehensive report on possible impact on stability of the adjacent buildings. Fadnavis informed that after the report of the Court commissioner and inquiry action would be taken against all those who are responsible for this incident.
