A 16-year-old student who fell from a running train last week and was subsequently declared brain dead has given life to four other people by donating his organs. This is city's 28th cadaver donation this year.
"The boy was admitted to Rajawadi Hospital on June 21 after he fell from the local train. He was declared brain dead on Friday, following which he was shifted to our hospital," said Abhijit Sinkar, transplant coordinator at Godrej Hospital in Vikhroli. The teenager's family is based in Wadala and he is survived by his sister and parents.

"We are definitely witnessing a rise in the number of cadaver and organ donations thanks to the awareness created by us, the media and several NGOs," said Zonal Transplant Coordination Committee (ZTCC) coordinator Rahul Wasnik.
Kokilaben hospital carries out its first heart transplant
Kolilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital carried out its first successful heart transplant on Sunday when a 31-year-old woman received a donor heart. The heart that left the Godrej Hospital in Vikhroli at 1.45 AM arrived in Andheri at 2.16 AM. The transplant was carried out by Dr Nandlishore Kapadia, head of Heart and Lung Transplant Programme, on the patient who was being treated at the hospital for the past two months.
