Samajwadi Party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav may land into trouble following his refusal to give his voice sample despite court orders in connection with a July 2015 case of threatening a senior 1992 batch IPS officer Amitabh Thakur over phone.

The investigating officer Avinash Mishra has filed an affidavit in the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Court in Lucknow stating that he had gone to Mulayam’s Vikramaditya Marg residence several times with the court notice but he was never allowed to meet him. Finally, he had got the court notice received at his residence.

However, Mulayam neither replied to the court notice nor contacted the investigative officer for giving a sample voice test. Mishra stated that it seems that Mulayam Singh Yadav does not want to give the voice test which could be viewed as him admitting to the crime of threatening the senior IPS officer Amitabh Thakur.

The investigative officer’s affidavit may come up for hearing at the CJM Court on October 27. The court may take a strong view of Mulayam deliberately avoiding to give sample voice test or may set a deadline as had happened in case of Narain Dutt Tiwari when the investigative officer faced a similar situation (Tiwari refused to give blood sample for the DNA test).

On July 1 this year, the CJM Court had issued an order directing the investigative officer to take sample voice test from Mulayam Singh Yadav for forensic testing of the taped conversation in which the Samajwadi Party leader had allegedly threatened the IPS officer. While Amitabh Thakur has already given sample of his voice, Mulayam has so far shown reluctance to honour the CJM Court order.

Mulayam had allegedly called Amitabh Thakur on July 10 2015 threatening him with dire consequences if he did not mend his ways. In the 2 minute 10 second conversation, which was taped and released to the media, Mulayam had asked Thakur to mend his ways or face a repeat of 2006 incident in which he was assaulted by a Samajwadi Party MLA and his supporters.

The 1992 batch IPS officer had lodged an FIR at the Hazratganj Police Station with the taped conversation as proof. Since Mulayam’s son Akhilesh Yadav was at the helm of affairs in Uttar Pradesh, the police had almost shut the case forcing IPS officer’s wife Nutan Thakur, a social and RTI activist, to file a case in the CJM Court which later directed Mulayam to give a voice sample test.
