Expelled Trinamool Congress leader Mukul Roy used to pass on inside information in party to rival parties, state food supplies minister Jyotipriya Mullick claimed on Monday. He made the sensational claim with Mukul's son sitting beside him on the dais.

"We have specific and genuine information that Mukul used to give out secrets of our parties to other parties such as BJP, CPI(M) and Congress," he said at a press conference while Mukul's son and MLA Subhrangshu Roy sat beside him without batting an eyelid.

Minutes after Mukul had tendered his resignation on September 25 as the Rajya Sabha member, Subhrangshu had distanced himself from his father's comments. On Monday, lauding Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee he said, "In the party Mamata Banerjee says the last word and whatever anyone else in the party says doesn't matter."

On September 25, the party MLA from Bijapur assembly constituency in North 24 Parganas refused to comment on his father leaving the party, but confirmed that he was with Trinamool party and would continue to do so.

Leaders of other parties, however, said that Mullick's allegations were unfounded. "The Mukul Roy episode is the latest in the long history of such dirty affairs within the party and they are dragging in this new baseless theory to cover up their mistake," CPI(M) MP Md Salim said.

BJP national secretary and former state president Rahul Sinha said, "We don't need Mukul Roy to get information of TMC. We have other, reliable resources to get inside information of TMC," he said.
