Mufti Mohammad Sayeed's dream of early Indo-Pak dialogue crashing: Omar Abdullah

Apparently referring to recent skirmish at the border with Pakistan, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said on Friday if PDP chief Mufti Mohammad Sayeed's possible alliance with BJP was based on "dream" of early resumption of Indo-Pak dialogue then it was "crashing". "Call me a cynic but I can't shake the scepticism," Omar said.

"If Mufti's BJP alliance hinges on an early resumption of the Indo-Pak dialogue, then the sound you hear are his dreams crashing to the floor," Omar, who is in London, wrote on  micro-blogging site twitter. The outgoing chief minister was apparently referring to the incidents of ceasefire violation by Pakistani Rangers along the border in Samba sector of the state that led to  death of a BSF jawan and injuries to two persons including a civilian. Four Pakistani rangers were also killed in BSF's retaliatory action.

The National Conference working president is in London to visit his parents -- Farooq Abdullah and Molie-- who underwent an organ transplant procedure recently. While no formal talks have started between BJP and PDP over government formation, the latter has set resumption of dialogue with Pakistan for resolution of Kashmir issue as one of its main conditions for any alliance with the ruling party at the Centre.

The election results in Jammu and Kashmir on December 23 threw up a hung Assembly with no party getting the 44 seats required to from the government. PDP emerged as the single largest party with 28 seats followed by BJP (25), National Conference (15) and Congress (12). Independents and smaller parties won seven seats.
