YAVATMAL: Eight members affiliated to the Subordinate Engineers Association (SEA) of the Maharashtra government-owned power supply and distribution companies went on a day long 'hunger strike' on Friday.

The office bearers from the Maharashtra State Power Generation Company Ltd, had demanded for the upgradation of their post from subordinate engineer to the rank of junior engineer, which has been pending for quite a long time, Rahul Pawde, president of SEA said.

There are over 650 subordinate engineers alone in the Power Generation Company, Pawde said and added, that over 1500 subordinate engineers from the other two companies Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company Ltd and Maharashtra
State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd, have been promoted, Pawde said.

The former Maharashtra Electricity Board has been divided into three limited companies - Maharashtra State Power Generation Company Ltd., Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company Limited and Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited respectively.

"We have been demanding for the upgrangineers for the last 15 years and even launchedhok Pawar said.
