After the victory in the Nanded Municipal Corporation election, the Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has decided to replicate the pattern across the state.

The Congress got 73 seats out of the 81 in Nanded polls. "We had expected to get a maximum of 53 seats in the corporation. However, the Congress got 73 seats despite the high-pitched campaign by the BJP. It speaks a lot. The mood is completely against the BJP. Farmers, traders and small time businessmen are not happy with the central government's decision to roll out demonetisation and GST. Forget about new opportunities and getting new jobs, but people are losing at hand. That anger resulted in a consolidated and strategic voting for the Congress," Ashok Chavan said, president of MPCC.

Chavan said that they will soon call a meeting with district presidents of the Congress committee and asked them to study and replicate the Nanded model in their area. "Nanded Municipal Corporation victory has changed the dynamic of state politics. Congress party leaders and workers had lost confidence after the losses in the Lok Sabha and state Assembly elections. Wins in the Nanded, Parbhani, Melegaon and Bhivandi corporation polls boosted the confidence of our people. Besides, we also won the village adopted by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and energy minister Chandrashekar Bawankule in the panchayat elections. We sweept Vidarbha. This is a major relief. People are putting back their faith in the Congress party and its policies," he added.

A political observer said that the Congress should not be swayed down with the Nanded victory. "It is true that people are not happy with the present regime. But this cannot be a guarantee for a Congress win. In the urban pocket, people are continue to vote for the BJP. Congress has to work hard to regain the confidence of the people. It has a grassroots network that needs to be revamped. People in blocks vote for the Congress, as we saw in Nanded. They did not divide their votes to the Shiv Sena nor MIM against BJP," he said.
