The Janata Dal (United) on Monday labelled Madhya Pradesh BJP chief Nandkumar Singh Chauhan's remarks on the Vyapam scam as 'unfortunate' and likely to affect the CBI probe into the matter.

"The CBI is going to start investigation into the Vyapam scam today and on this occasion the president of the ruling party coming out with such a statement is unfortunate and can influence the probe. I think every big BJP eader should desist from commenting on this issue now," JD (U) spokesperson K.C. Tyagi told ANI.

Chauhan has kicked off a row by repotedly telling reporters, "Hamey Vyapam ko lekar koi afsos nahi hai" (we've no regret over the Vyapam scam). He also said that out of 7 lakh students who took the test, only 2,000 were found to use malpractice. He further said that it is not a big issue and all those who are responsible are behind the bars. MP BJP Chief also accused Congress of fudging the number of deaths and spreading misinformation regarding the scam

A Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) team is scheduled to reach Bhopal on Monday to begin investigation into the Vyapam scam. The investigating agency has constituted a special team of 40 officers, headed by a Joint Director level officer, to probe the scam. The Supreme Court had last week transferred all cases relating to the Vyapam scam to the CBI.
