Mother stabs 6-year-old son to death while giving him bath in Punjab's Bathinda

A woman allegedly killed her six-year-old son on Sunday with a dagger in Punjab's Bathinda district, police said on Sunday.

The accused allegedly attacked her only son with a dagger while giving him a bath at home in Bhai Mati Dass Nagar, said Bathinda Station House Officer (Civil Lines) Rashpal Singh.

The boy suffered injuries in chest and abdomen and died on the spot, the SHO said.

Police said they were yet to ascertain the reason behind the attack and the matter was being investigated.

The accused has been arrested and a case under relevant section of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against her, they said. 

In a separate case a farmer, who did not approve of his daughter's love affair with a man, allegedly beat her to death in Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh, police said on Sunday.

Tondepu Kotaiah of Totaravulapadu village bludgeoned his daughter Chandrika to death with the wooden handle of an axe on Saturday, a day after she celebrated her 24th birthday, the police said.

The investigating officer in the case, V N N Murthy, said Kotaiah did not approve of his daughter's love affair.

He was enraged by her chatting with her lover over phone and fatally attacked her, the official said, adding that her mother tried to save her but in vain.

A case under IPC section 302 (murder) was registered and Kotaiah detained, Murthy said.
