MoS Ashwini Choubey in trouble for asking AIIMS docs to 'send back Biharis'

A complaint was today filed in a court alleging that Union Minister Ashwini Kumar Choubey had made insulting remarks against the people of Bihar. The complaint was filed by Tamanna Hashmi, a Muzaffarpur based social activist, against the minister of state for health and family welfare in the court of the chief judicial magistrate (CJM).

A complaint was today filed in a court alleging that Union Minister Ashwini Kumar Choubey had made insulting remarks against the people of Bihar. The complaint was filed by Tamanna Hashmi, a Muzaffarpur based social activist, against the minister of state for health and family welfare in the court of the chief judicial magistrate (CJM).
Choubey came under fire for remarking that ‘Biharis were flocking to AIIMS in Delhi and straining the premier institute’s resources’. 


At an event, the Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare added that he asked doctors to send such patients back to the state.  He said: “We have this peculiar habit of visiting AIIMS in Delhi for everything. The people of Bihar tend to go there even for a small disease. This has put pressure there and I have directed the doctors to send such patients back to the state.”

The complaint said that he felt insulted and hurt after going through a newspaper report which had Choubey's purported remarks against the patients from Bihar who visit the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi.
The plea sought registration of an FIR under IPC sections 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and section 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation).
Chief Judicial Magistrate Hari Prasad posted the matter for tomorrow. 

Choubey represents Buxar in the Lok Sabha and was a member of the Parliamentary Committee on Estimates, Standing Committee on Energy and Consultative Committee on Health and Family Welfare. He is also a member of Central Silk Board.

Choubey held important portfolios such as Urban development, PHED and Health in both in NDA I (2005-2010) and NDA II (2010-2013).
A Bachelors in Zoology from Science College, Patna University, Choubey has also authored a book - "Kedarnath Trasadi" based on the 2013 deluge in Uttarakhand.

Choubey, who was born on January 2, 1953 at Dariyapur in Bhagalpur, is a political and social worker and agriculturist.

Starting his early politics as student union leader in Patna University, Choubey went on to become its President in 1978-79. He also took part in JP movement and was taken into custody under MISA during emergency.
Choubey was a full time member of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad from 1974 to 1987 in June 2013, he was sacked along with 10 other BJP ministers after the JD(U) severed ties with BJP.
