Monsoon to arrive in Kerala soon, says IMD

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday said the south-west monsoon will be delayed by four to five days and is likely to arrive in Kerala in the first week of June. "Conditions are developing. There is a change in the wind and in the coming days, it will become more stable and monsoon will arrive soon in Kerala," IMD Director BP Yadav said. He further said that thundershowers are expected in Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, northern Rajasthan and western Uttar Pradesh.

"In North West India, temperatures are expected to drop in the coming days. Due to western disturbances, thundershowers are expected in Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Northern Rajasthan, Western Uttar Pradesh, parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand from June 1-3," Yadav said.

Meanwhile, the death toll in the heat wave sweeping many parts of the country today rose to 2,207.

The heat wave was witnessed in many parts of the country. Maharashtra's Nagpur city recorded the highest temperature of 47.1 degrees Celsius.
