Students of Jadavpur University challenged the molestation angle on Saturday, following a complaint by a first-year-student of the university.

According to students affiliated to the Faculty of Engineering Technology Students' Union (FETSU), a scuffle broke out between the victim and other girls at the entrance gate to the fest, after she refused to get her bag checked.

“When the victim’s turn arrived to get her bags checked, she refused. On persuading her more, the war of words led to a scuffle between the girls and the victim received minor injuries,” said a student of the university, who refused to be named.

Students affiliated to the same union as the victim, also alleged that she got into a fight with the girls and the boys did not intervene. “The boys were standing in a queue beside the girls. No such molestation took place. But, she was physically assaulted by the other girls, in fact the victim also fought back,” said a witness, who was present when the incident took place.

However, the victim claims that she was molested by three engineering students inside the campus on Friday night. The victim alleged that she was assaulted and molested after she refused to allow her bag to be checked while entering the fest.

Based on the complaint filed by the student, the officers have registered a complaint against three students of the university and booked them under sections of molestation. However, the police have not made any arrests so far in connection with the case.
