Modi will meet Trump for 3rd time on sidelines of UNGA in New York

 PM Modi will be meeting US President on the sidelines of united nations general assembly in New York on 24th September. This is the 3rd time this year, both leaders will be meeting, first on the sidelines of G20 summit in Osaka, 2nd on the sidelines of the G7 summit in France and 3rd next week in New York.

Briefing the media, Foreign Secretary Vijay Gokhale said "With the United States, the engagements are with multiple stakeholders, obviously with President Trump, with congressional leaders, business leaders and with the Indian community"

His first engagement is a roundtable with US Energy Companies in Houston on Saturday evening and key highlight on Sunday will be diaspora event in Houston. This will be the 3rd and the largest diaspora event in the US which PM Modi will address.

The Foreign Secretary said, "We are expecting 50,000 people from dispaora.. we are delighted that President of US Trump as well as senior democratic leadership of the United States will also be at this event, this includes several elected congressional representatives from both parties."

PM Modi will be addressing UNGA, the 2nd time since 2014 on 27th September.

Foreign Secretary Vijay Gokhale said, "Our Prime Minister will focus on what the United Nations General Assembly high-level segment is meant to focus on--which is as an important economy, as an important country, as a responsible member of the UN, PM will flag what we are doing for development, peace and security"

It will be a packed week for PM Modi. On Monday, PM will participate in UN hosed Climate Change, universal health care summits & leaders dialogue on strategic responses to terrorist and violent extremist narrative jointly hosted by King of Jordan, Prime Minister Of New Zealand, President of France and Secretary-General of UN António Guterres.

On Tuesday, PM will be at a  lunch hosted by the secretary-general of UN and 150 anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi event at UN in which leaders of Bangladesh, New Zealand, Singapore, Jamaica etc will be present. The day will end with an award by Bill and Melinda Gate Foundation to PM Modi for his Swachh Bharat Abhiyan campaign. On Wednesday, PM will take part in the Government of India backed investment round table. 

Other than that, on 24th September he will meet 12 leaders of pacific countries, which will be the 3rd India Pacific Island summit and on 25th September he will meet 14 leaders of Caricom countries or the 1st India Carribean summit. Overall he is expected to meet 20 leaders including leaders from South Asia and Latin America. India will also announce the collation of disaster resilience infrastructure in New York which is an idea proposed by PM Modi.
