Modi’s 3D avatar under lens

Chief minister Narendra Modi’s 3D avatar is under attack from the rival parties, which are accusing him of wasteful expenditure.

Former chief minister and Modi’s bete noire Keshubhai Patel claimed that each public meeting with the chief minister’s 3D avatar was costing Rs54 crore.

“The total cost of the four public meetings (at Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara and Rajkot) works out at a staggering Rs216 crore,” Patel said.

Gordhan Zadaphia, who recently merged his party MahaGujarat Janata Party with Keshubhai’s Gujarat Parivartan Party (GPP), also came down heavily on Modi, saying the money being spent for Modi’s publicity could be put to much better use.

“Hundreds of farmers have committed suicide in the state under Modi’s rule. Compensation could have been paid to their families, or to provide better healthcare services in rural areas,” Zadaphia said.
He asked the BJP to come clean by revealing the source of the funds and the money being spent for the 3D events.
The CM also came under attack from the Congress, the main Opposition party, for the 3D stunt.

“The BJP extorted more than Rs500 crore from citizens under the Dhan Sangrah campaign, and is splurging people’s money on the CM’s publicity,” said Gujarat Congress president Arjun Modhwadia.

The CM addressed simultaneous public meetings at Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Vadodara and Surat on Sunday evening where the 3D technology was used to project a life-like Modi at each of the venues. However, the event was marred by technical glitches.
