Prime Minister Narendra Modi, once praised Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar, who had helped Modi during his days of chief minister of Gujarat. Modi admitted that it was Pawar who guided him at every step, right from Modi's Chief Minister days.

Speaking after inaugurating 'Sugarcane Value Chain-Vision 2025 Sugar' international conference and exhibition at Vasantdada Sugar Institute (VSI), Pune, Pawar in his welcome speech wax eloquent for Prime Minister Modi. Pawar said, "I am at times surprised with the way our Prime Minister functions. He was there in Japan last night and came back to India in the morning. He went to Goa this afternoon after which he went to Belgaum in Karnataka. He has come to Pune from there and I don't know where he would go after this function," Pawar said that he was amazed to see the way Modi is working round-the-clock for the cause of nation.

Modi-Pawar admiration for each other is not new. In February 2015, Modi had praised Pawar. Modi on Sunday congratulated Pawar for his 50 years of 'unbeaten innings' in electoral politics. He also underlined that Maharashtra chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis was completing his 25 years as elected representative this year.

Modi also lauded Pawar for his concern for agrarian issues and interest of the farmers. Modi said that Pawar howsoever busy in his daily political activity, has always rushed to help out farmers if there is an agrarian issue coming up. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis also had showered praise for Pawar and said that Pawar has always guided his government to come out of crisis with respect to sugar industry.

Governor C Vidyasagar Rao, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Union Minister Prakash Jawadekar, Maharashtra minister for Cooperation Subhash Deshmukh, PWD Minister Chandrakant Patil, guardian minister for Pune district Girish Bapat were present on the dais. The international conference and exhibition on Sugarcane Value Chain - Vision 2025 is biggest international conference in the topic being held in Asia.

Expressing the need for increasing per hectare yield of sugarcane and use of micro-irrigation for sugarcane, Modi asked Sharad Pawar to concentrate on bamboo cultivation which can open another global opportunity for India. Modi took a stock of sugar industry and said that latest technology, micro-irrigation, bye-products like ethanol needs to be harnessed so that industry becomes globally competitive.

Not a word

NCP chief Sharad Pawar had recently criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi after the surgical strike on Pakistan, but, on Sunday Pawar did not utter a single word on Modi's decision of demonitization. Pawar praised Modi and Modi reciprocated but Pawar did not say anything on black money or Modi's decision which is talk of the town.
