Nitin Gadkari and Piyush Goyal are among the top performing ministers in the Narendra Modi govt’s review meeting reveals NDTV.

According to the report, the economics affairs secretary presented an update on each ministry’s work, and each ministry had submitted their presentation to the economics affairs secretary. The exercise reportedly lasted five hours, and comes before an expected cabinet reshuffle next week. Modi reportedly told ministers they need to work harder and this process will be repeated every three months. The PM reportedly said:

"The government has been announcing good schemes but the "doot" messengers (ministers and lawmakers) have not been able to take it to the public.” Under-performers included health, and the PM made it clear he would like faster progress for state-run hospitals and wants more AIIMS-like institutes across the nation. He also pulled up the telecom ministry and urge them to improve connectivity and deal with call-drops urgently. It’s believed that Goyal will be given a promotion.

Earlier party sources had played down significance of the 'review meeting', saying such an exercise, which is also attended often by Union Ministers Arun Jaitley, Rajnath Singh and Sushma Swaraj, happens almost every month.

There has been a strong buzz in the party for some time about a reshuffle. Uttar Pradesh, which goes to polls early next year, is likely to get more representation besides Assam, whose Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal was a Union Minister before he returned to lead the state government.

Sources had said that the reshuffle was on the cards with just around a month to go for the monsoon session of Parliament. They also said the current reshuffle will focus on Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Punjab with around eight new faces expected from these three states. PM also had a detailed meet with Amit Shah on Wednesday, before attending the review meet.

The top portfolios though are expected to remain unchanged in this round of cabinet reshuffle.
