The Modi government on Saturday appointed four new governors to states and changed the Lieutenant Governor of Andaman and Nicobar. While the Vijaya Dashami symbolism was not lost with two distinguished soldiers being appointed, war veteran Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retired) taking over as Arunachal Pradesh governor accentuated it.

Having distinguished himself on all the volatile frontiers of the country and in a career spanning over three decades, Brigadier Mishra volunteered for the Kargil War even after retirement. While he retired in 1995, he also received Commendation for Gallant Role in Counter Terrorist Operations.

Admiral (Retd.) Devendra Kumar Joshi, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, NM, VSM, has been appointed as the Lieutenant Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands in place of Prof Jagdish Mukhi, who has been moved to Assam.

Uttar Pradesh BJP stalwart Satya Pal Malik, an agriculturist and active social worker with an experience of over 50 years in social development, has been appointed as the new Governor of Bihar to fill in the vacancy created by President Ram Nath Kovind. He is a former Minister of State (MoS) and Three time Parliamentarian.

Bihar politician Ganga Prasad has been appointed as the new Meghalaya Governor. During the earlier NDA regime, he was the leader of the Bihar Legislative Council. He remained as a MLC for 18 years.

Meanwhile, amid the ongoing political turmoil in the state, Tamil Nadu got its full-time Governor Banwarilal Purohit who will have his task cut out with the factional feud in the ruling AIADMK threatening the political stability in the state.

Purohit, who is currently Governor of Assam, receives the appointment at a time when the Madras High Court is hearing a petition filed by DMK seeking a direction to Governor to order a trust vote following the withdrawal of support to Chief Minister Edappadi K Palanisami by 18 rebel MLAs who were subsequently suspended.

Maharashtra Governor Ch Vidyasagar, who was holding additional charge of Tamil Nadu for over a year after K Rosaiah's retirement, has earned the wrath of opposition parties in the state over his handling of the rebellion by the AIADMK MLAs owing allegiance to TTV Dinakaran.

Even as the opposition party sought a floor test for the Palanisami government in the Assembly, Governor has reportedly told a delegation of the opposition party that he sees the AIADMK crisis as an intra-party affair.

DMK working president and Leader of Opposition MK Stalin accused Rao of indulging in politics and acting at the behest of the BJP government in the centre. Palanisami's support in the 234 member House is 113 MLAs as against the simple majority of 117.

Purohit's action, in case of the court giving a direction for floor test, would be keenly watched by all the opposition parties.
