Former Congress minister RPN Singh on Monday said the Narendra Modi government has failed on the economic front.

"This government had come to power promising 'achhe din'. But in the first year of its rule it has become clear that it has no vision for economic development," Singh told reporters.

"All parameters show that management of economy was poor in the first year, in comparison with smooth economic management under UPA," he said.

"Job creation scene is dismal as in the last one year they have been able to create only 17 lakh jobs. They had promised to create 10 crore jobs in five years, so they should have created two crore jobs in the first year," the Congress spokesperson said.

"Make in India campaign has not been successful on the ground. It has remained just a slogan," he said. The NDA government had failed to control inflation and industrial growth was also slack, the government increased the fuel prices recently and also the service tax, he noted.

The UPA government had achieved growth rate of 8 per cent on an average in the last ten years, Singh pointed out.

Singh also accused Modi government of following UPA policies and taking credit for things started by the Congress-led alliance.

"Swacch Bharat was a UPA scheme which has been renamed from Nirmal Bharat and even the Jan Dhan Yojana was started by our government," Singh said.
