A Muslim cattle trader was lynched and another was badly thrashed by an irate mob allegedly on the suspicion of cow slaughtering in Bajhera Khurd village of Hapur district of Uttar Pradesh.

Though the Hapur Police denied the incident but a video containing visuals of a mob surrounding two men lying unconscious after the murderous assault went viral on the social media.

The video has voices of men from the mob justifying the punishment for cow slaughtering. A man from the mob was heard saying not to give water when one of them gained conscious and asked for water.

Ironically, the incident took place when Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath was holding a meeting of party MPs, MLAs and office-bearers from Western Uttar Pradesh in Ghaziabad on Monday amid high-security.

Incidentally, the Bajhera Khurd village is barely 10 km away from Bisada village in Dadri where 55-year-old Mohammad Akhlaq was lynched by a mob in 2015 on allegations of eating and keeping beef (cow meat) in his home.

Narrating their horror of tale, a relative of the victim said that Qasim (38), a cattle trader,  and Shamiuddin (65) had gone to Madhpura village to buy fodder for cattle. “They were surrounded by a frenzied mob and attacked them with sticks when some villagers circulated rumours that they were there to slaughter cows and sell its meat,” alleged Yaseen, Shamiuddin’s brother.

Yaseen alleged that the mob thrashed and dragged them for about a kilometer to a temple in Bajhera Khurd village. The Priest of the temple Ekadashi Giri, who witnessed the attack, also claimed that the mob thrashed the two men with sticks and kicks while they were begging for their life.

“After beating them severely, the mob left the two bleeding and unconscious near the temple,” said Giri.

On getting the information, the police rushed to spot and admitted both in a hospital in critical condition where Qasim succumbed to injuries.  “The condition of my brother Shamiuddin is also very critical,” said his brother Yaseen.

The Superitendent of Police Hapur Sankalp Sharma, however, denied it to be a case of mob lynching following rumours of cow slaughter. The SP claimed that the attack was a fall-out of road rage incident.

The SP claimed that the FIR lodged by Yaseen at the Pilkhuwa Police Station did not make any mention of attack due to rumours on cow slaughterring. The FIR said that Qasim and Shamiuddin were riding a motorcycle when then met with an accident with another bike driven by a youth from Bajhera Khurd village.

Soon, a mob gathered following the accident and the two were severely thrashed when they blamed the youth for the collision during a heated altercation. “A few villagers said that they had heard rumours about cow slaughtering but the police did not recover any weapon or meat from the possession of the victims” claimed the SP City.

“A case has been registered against 25 unidentified men and we have arrested two persons in connection with the murder and attack on the two,” said the SP City. Heavy security force has been deployed in Bajhera Khurd village to check any fall-out of the incident.
