The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development (MMRDA) on Saturday said that it has appointed contractors for construction of two Metro corridors, which is priced at Rs 25,000 crore.

While the overall cost is Rs 25,000 crore, civil construction for the two routes – DN Nagar-Mandale Metro-2B and Wadala-Ghatkopar-Kasarvadavli Metro 4 – is priced at Rs 3,500 crore.

Approvals for appointing the same were given by MMRDA chief secretary earlier in the day. In a statement, MMRDA said, “Consortium of M/s.MBZ and M/s.RCC, and a consortium of M/s. GGYHBCL, M/s. Neeraj Cement Structural Limited and M/s.MPKHS Pvt.Ltd has been appointed to construct viaduct and stations for Metro-2B corridor between BKC and Mandale.”

When it comes to the Metro-4 corridor, Reliance Infrastructure along with a US-based company, TATA Projects and a Chinese firm will construct 26 metro stations between Wadala and Kasarvadavli. Work for both these corridors will begin in May this year.

Besides this, the MMRDA has approved Rs 237 crore for an elevated road on the Thane-Belapur industrial corridor, which includes a 1.7 crore long tunnel. In addition, Rs 223 crore has been approved for a rail over bridge in Kopri in Thane East and Rs 223 crore for improving the Chheda Nagar flyover.

UPS Madan, Metropolitan Commissioner MMRDA, said, "By appointing contractors for the corridors the executive committee has only underlined the need of Metro corridors for the city and its Metropolitan Region. Our aim is also to enable commuters to travel from anywhere-to-anywhere in one hour."
