The Aam Aadmi Party on Thursday demanded action against Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung and alleged that he had a role to play in the murder of New Delhi Municipal Council official MM Khan.

AAP spokesperson Raghav Chadha said, "The LG should resign immediately... Or the central government should sack him. He should also be arrested and investigated.” He further alleged that BJP's Maheish Girri and Kanwar Singh Tanwar were linked to MM Khan's murder. "They should be arrested," Chadha told mediaspersons.

Chadha said the hotelier, Ramesh Kakkar, wrote to Jung on May 10 complaining about Khan, saying he was acting in an "arbitrary, unjust and biased manner". He had urged Jung to intervene. On May 11, Chadha said, Girri also wrote to the LG favouring the hotelier and demanded action against Khan.

Khan was shot dead in Jamia Nagar a day before he was to clear the final order on the lease terms of hotel ‘The Connaught’ operating on a property of the civic body.

Meanwhile, the LG office has clarified its stand and said that everyone understands that the claims by AAP are frivolous, and therefore, the attempt to draw political mileage from this tragedy is sad. The clarification comes just days after Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung's office sent Delhi hotelier Ramesh Kakkar's petition against Khan to the NDMC asking for "action as per law" following reports that the official was allegedly murdered for refusing to take bribe from him.

The statement issued by the Lieutenant Governor's office said the Delhi Police arrested seven people within 24 hours, adding full recovery was made and further investigations are on.
"Further, on receipt of a proposal from the Hon'ble Chief Minister, the Lt. Governor promptly approved a compensation of Rupees one crore to the family of the deceased officer," the statement said.
