With an eye on the local body polls, DMK working President MK Stalin will undertake a statewide tour in November to highlight the failures of the AIADMK government to the people.

The "Ezhuchi" (Awakening in Tamil) campaign will begin in the first week of November and conclude in the first week of December, announced Stalin after presiding over the party's district secretaries meeting here. "I will undertake a statewide tour, just like the Namakku Naame tour, which I undertook ahead of the Assembly elections in May 2016," Stalin said.

This comes with local body elections due to be held and with the RK Nagar by-polls scheduled to take place before December 31.

"We are yet to decide on when and from where the campaign will begin. It will focus on strengthening the party and to highlight the failures of the AIADMK government," Stalin said.

DMK leader and MP TKS Elangovan told reporters that the party has invited many leaders across India. "Mamata Banerjee will join the campaign on the first day. We are waiting for other leaders to confirm their presence," he said.

The final plan of Stalin's state-wide tour will be finalised in the next few days.

In the crucial DMK meet, six resolutions, including one asking the district leaders to involve themselves in verifying electoral rolls released by the election commission to ensure no party supporters are left out, were passed.

Declaring the state's public health as a disaster, another resolution demanded that the central and state governments take steps on a war footing to control the outbreak of dengue, which had already claimed 50 people.
