A local church in Christian pre-dominant state of Mizoram, seems to be getting pally with godmen who keep asking Hindus to multiply, as they offered cash incentives for couples who had four or more babies!

The Indian Express wrote that the Lunglei Bazar Veng Baptist Church recently announced that they would pay Rs 4000 for the fourth baby, Rs 5000 for the fifth and so forth.

The secretary of the Bazar Veng Baptist Church, which announced the cash incentives, also said there was no upper ceiling.

Low birth rate is a concern for Mizo tribes and also churches. Lalramleina Pachuau, senior executive member of Mizoram Synods Presbyterian Church of India said: “We encourage more children.”
According to 2011 Census, Mizoram’s population density is the second lowest in the country, and aggregate population growth in the current decade has been 23.48% compared to 29.18% a decade earlier.

Pachuau said even the Catholic Church agrees to the policy but aren’t vocal about it.
