The case involving the disappearance of Mumbai-based lingerie businessman Harshad Thakkar just got more complicated after the DNA samples – one of Thakkar’s mother and the other of an unidentified body that was found in Marine Drive did not match.

The forensic science laboratory (FSL) has now asked the police to get DNA samples from the male members for the family to establish if the unidentified body is indeed Thakkar’s.

The FSL has said that the complexities and technicalities to establish the identity of an unidentified individual is always a challenge. “While the process to check the DNA samples is different for both genders, we shall send one more report to the police in a week’s time after we examine the new samples. We conducting ancestry tests to check for any biological link between the family members and the corpse,” said a forensic officer.

Thakkar, who has been missing from his Dadar shop since the beginning of October, left four letters to different people citing the decline of the rupee and the falling stock market that had affected his company was the reason behind his disappearance.

The family filed a missing person’s complaint at the Dadar police station, but even though the search has been intensified there are no whereabouts or leads. Meanwhile, CCTV footage is being scrutinized and CDR data is being trailed, the police said.

Earlier, employees and top authorities of Ashapura Intimates Pvt Ltd, chairman and managing director of the firm Harshad Thakkar who has been missing for more than three weeks had pooled his own money to save the prices of the shares after the share market crashed late last month. For the same, Thakkar had mortgaged his house and other properties to save the share prices from being completely devastated.
