The moderate Hurriyat Conference, led by Mirwaiz Umer Farooq, today sought intervention of the Britain on the issue of what it said violation of human rights in Kashmir Valley.

At a meeting with two British diplomats in Srinagar, Mirwaiz hoped the country would use its influence and initiate steps at the diplomatic level on the issue of "violation of human rights" in the Valley.

Hurriyat favoured meaningful and result-oriented talks on Kashmir, he told first secretary (political) in the British high commission in New Delhi, Victoria L Whitford, and second political secretary in the UK mission in Islamabad, Sharon McDonald.

But the amalgam would not be part of any exercise or the process which was aimed at keeping the issue hanging, the Hurriyat softliner said.

Yesterday, the diplomats called on JKLF chairman Yasin Malik who briefed them about the prevailing situation in the Valley and the need for early resolution of the Kashmir issue.

Malik had asked the United Kingdom to use its friendly ties with India and Pakistan for resolving the Kashmir issue.
