A minor girl was allegedly raped by a policeman here on the pretext of marrying her, police said on Sunday. Constable Deepak Bhagat, 26, posted at Lailunga police station allegedly raped a 15-year-old girl at his official residence last week, they said.

According to the complaint filed by the victim's family last night, Bhagat took the minor to his official residence last week on pretext of marrying her but later sexually exploited her for two days, Raigarh Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Prafulla Thakur said.

Later, Bhagat threatened her of dire consequences if she revealed about the incident to anyone, the ASP said. On reaching home, the girl narrated her ordeal to her parents who later lodged a complaint, he said. "The constable has been suspended with immediate effect and search is on to trace him as he is at large since the incident came to light," the ASP said.

A case has been registered against the constable under IPC section 376 (rape) and relevant provisions of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act 2012, Thakur said, adding the matter is being investigated.
