On the backdrop of farmers agitation demanding better pricing of milk, Swabhimani Sanghatna president and Member of Parliament, Raju Shetti today stated that Patidar leader from Gujarat Hardik Patel has extended his support and his supporters will stop milk tankers from Gujrat to enter into Maharashtra.

Shetti said, "The state government is trying to scuttle the agitation by bringing milk from other states like Gujarat and Karnataka. However, it will not succeed as we will intensify our agitation."

"Hardik Patel has also spoken to me where he has extended his support to farmers agitation. He has assured that they will try and block the milk tankers from Gujarat to enter in the state to make sure the farmer agitation is not defused," he added.

The agitation started from Sunday midnight where the protesting farmers stopped the milk tankers traveling to cities like Mumbai and Pune.

In Pune, the protesters blocked the tankers from entering into Pune city from Haddapar. They spilled the milk on the roads and also threw away milk packets.

As the agitation intensify, Shetti visited Pune's famous Dagdusheth Ganesh temple and offered prayers. "I have prayed for wisdom to prevail and the chief minister will accept farmers demands," Shetti said.

Blaming government for violent agitation in Nagpur, he said, "the protesters were planning agitation from midnight but before that police picked them up due to which the agitation turned violent. The onus of the violence is on the government."

Meanwhile, amid an agitation by farmers outfits demanding higher procurement prices for milk, the Opposition today created ruckus on the issue and, siding with the agitators, walked out of the Maharashtra Assembly.

They accused the government of being "anti-farmer" and "indifferent" to their plight.

The government hit back by stating that it was farmers groups, led by MP Raju Shetti-headed Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatana, which were "anti-farmer".

The government claimed that it was not peasants, but federations representing them that have stopped milk supply which in turn was causing "loss" to farmers.
