One of the victim's wrote that she had filed a complaint 80 days ago, but alleged that no action had been taken by the Congress party, which ironically was targeting BJP leaders for similar misconduct. The party immediately accepted his resignation.
"NSUI national president voluntarily resigned from him position for the goodwill of his party. The allegations being levelled against him are false and he will now go to the court and prove himself," said NSUI national secretary Saimon Farooqui . An NSUI office-bearer from Chhattisgarh was the first to level charges of sexual harassment against Khan in June. This had led to the Congress leadership to set up a panel to probe the allegations. She had also filed a police complaint against Khan. The woman had alleged that Khan "used to sexually harass young women" for political appointments in the NSUI.
A senior Congress leader said the resignation comes days after the panel submitted its report to Congress president Rahul Gandhi last week. The committee comprised All India Mahila Congress president Sushmita Dev, Lok Sabha member Deepender Hooda and party's national media panelist Ragini Nayak. Congress spokesperson Priyanka Chaturvedi had last week maintained that the party had immediately formed the committee, which heard all sections while preparing the report.
