Men's rights organisation set to float a political party

A forum of men's rights organisations has decided to float a political party to address issues concerning men and fight for gender equality and social justice.

Observing that men's welfare has been ignored by governments, the National Coalition of Men (NCM) has been working to grab the government's attention towards male victims of "gender biased" laws. "The time has arrived for men to raise their voices against gender biased laws and anti-male thinking, to save society from future repercussions," NCM convener Amit Gupta told reporters at a press conference here today. "We have launched a manifesto of issues concerning men and urged various political parties to include those demands in their manifesto for the coming Lok Sabha elections," he said.

When asked if their demands would go unheard, Gupta said, "We are also planning to float a political party which will fight for males' rights to bring gender equality in the country. The process in this direction is underway".

Demands in the manifesto primarily comprises formation of a "men's ministry" and a "men's commission", constitution of a task force to deal with increasing number men's suicides, amendments in gender biased laws, equal rights to boys and girls in attaining education, a mechanism to facilitate speedy trial of under trials languishing in jails, gender neutral Domestic Violence Act and rehabilitation of men who have been acquitted.
