On 8th November, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced demonetisation of Rs 1000 and Rs 500 notes with effect from midnight, making these notes invalid in a major assault on black money, fake currency and corruption. In his first televised address to the nation, Modi said people holding notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 can deposit the same in their bank and post office accounts from November 10 till December 30. The announcement came as quite a shock to the political and common class with ATMs running dry and people panicking about what to do with their money.
Here are some of the best tweets and memes on the incident:

Lack of intellectual depth in our media means that the coverage of the #DeMonetisation step will never go beyond pics of queues outside ATMs

After clicking your selfie with the ₹2,000 note, frame it and keep it in showcase, as you're not going to get change for it. #DeMonetisation
