Mehbooba Mufti vows to punish Gowhar Ahmad Rather's murderer

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti reached out to the family of 22-year-old slain youth Gowhar Ahmad Rather and vowed to punish the guilty in a bid to calm public tempers in the Valley.

Undeterred by the prevailing tense situation, Mehbooba visited Rather's family to offer condolences at Kangan in central Kashmir's Ganderbal district.

"The Chief Minister assured the family members that the guilty found involved in excessive use of force in the incident would be brought to book. She also conveyed her sympathies with the family," an official spokesman said.

Massive security arrangements were made in Kangan to ensure incident-free visit.

Mehbooba's visit comes a day after Jammu and Kashmir police suspended a selection grade constable for his prima facie involvement in the killing of a Gowhar Ahmad Rather in Kangan on Tuesday.
