Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president and former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mehbooba Mufti stoked a major political storm on Wednesday after she set 2020 deadline for ending J&K's accession with the union of India. Mufti made these remarks shortly after filing her nomination papers from Anantnag parliamentary constituency.

"The 2020 will also be the deadline of J&K for the entire country. If the conditions of the accession are removed, then the relationship of Jammu and Kashmir with the union of India will also end," Mehbooba said.

She was reacting to BJP president Amit Shah's statement that they would abrogate the Article 35 A from the Constitution of India in 2020.

"Amusing. Amit Shah daydreams about scrapping Article 370 and PM hopes that Pak implodes. Nation wants to move on and focus on issues like unemployment, inflation, etc but BJP can't drop its obsession with Pak. This election forgets real issues, divisive politics will rule the roost," Mufti said.

Mehbooba also hit out at former Sadr-e-Riyasat (president of state) and senior Congress leader Karan Singh over his remarks about the special status. Singh in an interview had said that J&K had never asked for special status but it was given to it by the government of India (at the time of accession)

"Karan Singh's statement is ridiculous. His father Maharaja Hari Singh had laid the foundation for the Article 370. And today Karan Singh is singing a different tune. It is wrong and does not befit his personality," she said.

She said the Congress manifesto is ditto like the Agenda of Alliance that was signed between PDP and BJP. "For example status quo on 370, AFSPA revocation, dialogue and removing the army from civilian areas. It is word to word same," she claimed.

Mehbooba later took on the defence minister Nirmala Sitharaman saying the allure of power gives people selective amnesia. "PDPs agenda of alliance agreed by the BJP clearly stipulated a review and gradual withdrawal of AFSPA from disturbed areas in J&K. Congress demanding it is treason but BJP wanting it to grab power is OK?" she tweeted.

Mehbooba lashed out against finance minister Arun Jaitley over his separatist psyche remark. "A new India where those who kill and lynch in the name of religion are feted and garlanded is unacceptable. If standing up for my people makes me a separatist and anti-national then it's a badge I will wear with honour," she said.
