Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Monday called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and apprised him about the overall situation in the state.

The Chief Minister pitched for taking cross-Line of Control (LoC) connectivity to higher levels and deescalating the border tensions between the two neighbours, India and Pakistan.

During the meeting, Mufti stressed on finding ways and means to end the cycle of violence in Jammu and Kashmir by addressing the element of alienation among youth.

The meeting took place three after she appealed to the country’s leadership to listen to the voices of pain from the state.

“The Chief Minister stressed on finding ways and means to end the cycle of violence in the state by addressing the element of alienation among the youth,” a state government spokesman said.

There has been an escalation of violence in the state over the last few years and stone pelting incidents on forces being common.

The security forces in J&K got success last year killing 213 terrorists, the highest since 2010 that recorded 232 kills. But it did come at a cost 80 casualties of security personnel matching the numbers of 2016.   With 342 terror related incidents, the toll being highest since 2011 the cycle of violence in the conflict hit state remained high.

She said the people of the state have suffered immensely during the turmoil of past three decades and are looking up to the country’s political leadership to support them in getting out of this cycle of uncertainty and deaths.

Officials said that Mufti asserted the need for peaceful engagement with all stakeholders.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister also pleaded for push to cross LoC movement. She suggested opening of more historic routes across the LoC and movement of more people to build public confidence.
She also called for development of Sharda Peth, an ancient seat of learning across the LoC, like Nalanda and Takshila.
