Fissures have surfaced in the Mehbooba Mufti-led coalition government in Jammu and Kashmir after the BJP accused its alliance partner of pursuing the policy of discrimination against religious and linguistic minorities in the state. The BJP on Tuesday said, the state's move is "tantamount to cheating the nation" and looting the exchequer.

"This is the same communal politics of Jammu and Kashmir government that Kashmiri people have been pursuing for so many years. They discriminated against the minority population of the state in all respects. The affidavit filed in the Supreme Court is the reflection of this policy," Professor Virender Gupta, BJP state spokesperson, told DNA.

Gupta's statement comes in the aftermath of an affidavit filed by the state government in the Supreme Court, ruling out the formation of a state minority commission. The affidavit was filed in response to a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by a local lawyer Ankur Sharma

"We urge the government of India to direct the respective state governments to provide benefits to its minorities. If Muslim in J&K are in majority, the benefits should go to its minorities (i.e. Hindus and people of other faiths). Similarly in other states where Muslims are in minority benefit should go to them," he said

Launching an attack at the Mehbooba Mufti government, Gupta said the decision to submit affidavit in apex court might be an unilateral decision since the concerned department is held by the Kashmiri leaders.

"I have talked to some of the leaders, and they are of the opinion that the minority should get the benefit in Jammu and Kashmir," he said.

BJP with 25 MLAs is the major alliance partner of PDP which has 28 MLAs in the 87 member elected House. Sajad Lone led People Conference with two MLAs is the major ally of the BJP.
