Three cadres of the outlawed Garo National Liberation Army were arrested by BSF troops in remote Meghalaya's South West Garo Hills district. The trio were travelling on a motor bike from Purakhasia area when they were apprehended by the BSF three days ago, a BSF spokesperson said on Tuesday.

Suspecting that they were militants, the three were put on sustained questioning during which two of them -- Roneth Ch Marak and Ringaing Ch Marak -- admitted to have undergone militant training two years ago and were currently working under 'Area commander' Simbat, the spokesperson said. The third cadre has been identified as Modil R Marak.

Preliminary probe revealed that they were involved in many illegal activities, he said. A memory card recovered from Ringaing contained a video of GNLA training and his photo posing with the AK-47, the spokesperson said.

Meanwhile, the BSF also said it has tightened security at several check points and enhanced the vigil at the border as well as in the hinterland after the recent inputs on increased movements of GNLA and other insurgents groups ahead of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to the North East.

Modi's trip begins on November 29 when he will be flag off the first train from Meghalaya and will also lay the foundation stone of the Bharibi-Sairang railway track. He will also meet the chief ministers of all North Eastern states and attend a conference of police chiefs on November 30.
