Shubham Rastogi (18) succumbed to his injuries at a medical college here where he was admitted after being grievously injured in the clash in Teergaran area over construction of a water kiosk near a mosque.
The clash saw both sides pelting stones and opening fire at each other. Rastogi's last rites took place at Surajkund amid heavy police deployment. Tension prevailed at old areas such as Budhana Gate, Lisadi Gate, and Dehli Gate and some areas like Sarafa Bazaar, Kaagzi Bazaar, and Holi Mohalla which were opened after life started limping back to normal in the city, remained closed today in view of Rastogi's death.

Rastogi had suffered a bullet injury in the head and had gone into coma, the doctors said. However, the situation was under control due to heavy police deployment, police said, adding patrolling has been increased in the city. In addition to companies of Rapid Action Force and Provincial Armed Constabulary, police officials have been camping in areas which are still rife with tension.

The Uttar Pradesh government has announced Rs 13 lakh as compensation to the next of kin of Rastogi and government job to one of the family members, District Magistrate Navdeep Rinwa told PTI here.
Besides Rastogi, six others were injured in the clash. Meanwhile, police have arrested half a dozen people who were involved in the clash and booked nearly 2,500 persons.

"Cases against about 2,500 persons have been registered at the Kotwali and Dehli Police Stations," Superintendent of Police Om Prakash had said.
