Police today did not allow mediapersons to enter the residence of Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq for a proposed press conference.

A posse of policemen were deployed outside Mirwaiz's residence in Nigeen area here and concertina wires were laid on either side of the lane.

Police told the journalists that since Mirwaiz was under house arrest, no one was allowed to meet him.

"As Mirwaiz was supposed to address the press conference at 3 pm today, the authorities deployed the heavy contingent of forces to prevent him from addressing the press," a spokesman of the Hurriyat said.

Mirwaiz plans to now address journalists through social media at 4.30 pm.
