The Chandigarh administration will launch a vaccination campaign against measles and rubella on August 3 in a bid to eliminate the diseases.

The Measles-Rubella Campaign will be held over three to four weeks and the administration is targeting 100 per cent coverage, an official spokesman said today.

"All children aged nine months and below 15 years will be vaccinated regardless of their previous vaccination status or history of measles or rubella-like illnesses," he said.

The vaccination will be conducted in schools during the first two weeks and later at community sessions (anganwari centres), the spokesman said.

The Government of India's health and family welfare; women and child development and education departments along with the WHO and UNICEF are the partners in the campaign here, he said.

The Centre plans to cover the whole county in a phase- wise manner. The first phase was held at Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Pondicherry, Goa and Lakshadweep, the spokesman said.

The second phase will cover Chandigarh along with Daman and Diu, Andhra Pradesh, Dadar and Nagar Haveli, Telangana and Uttarakhand in August, he said.
