A headless female body was discovered in a river in Singapore in December 2013. The main accused, husband Harvinder Singh, is absconding and a red corner notice has been issued by Interpol.

Here are the details released by the MEA with regard to the case:

"The facts of this case as conveyed by our Mission in Singapore are as under:

1. A headless female body was discovered in a river in Singapore in December 2013.  After investigation, the Singapore Police informed the Mission that they suspected the headless body to be of Jasvinder Kaur, born in Haryana, and holding an Indian Passport.

2.The Mission conveyed this to the Next of Kin (NoK) Sona Singh in India.

3. While the Mission was making arrangements to send the body back, Singapore police informed the Mission that permission to take back body was granted on the understanding that the parents of the deceased would be in Singapore for DNA comparison and that till DNA comparison was completed, the body would be kept in the Government mortuary at Singapore.

4. This was conveyed to the family members of the deceased.  However, they did not say anything.  Singapore authorities also remained in touch with NoK Sona Singh to come to Singapore to identify the body and for giving DNA sample but the family did not respond to the Singapore Police.

5. As no headway was being made, the Singapore Police travelled to India to collect DNA samples, which was done in May 2015, in co-ordination with NCB, Delhi.  During the visit, in their interaction with Singapore Police, the family members conveyed that they will not travel to Singapore for any further inquiry nor did they show any inclination to have the body back, and Singapore Police disposed off the body, after DNA confirmation.

6. In the murder case, the main accused, the husband Harvinder Singh is absconding and a red corner notice has been issued by Interpol. The other accused, Gursharan Singh, who helped the husband in the disposal of the body, was sentenced on 8 April 2015 to 30 months imprisonment for causing disappearance of evidence and six months imprisonment for intentional omission in giving information of offence to the authorities."
