MEA pledges Rs 1 crore to coronavirus relief fund 'PM Cares'

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Monday pledged Rs 1 crore to the PM Cares relief fund that was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to support government's efforts to fight the coronavirus pandemic.

MEA spokesperson Raveesh Kumar took to Twitter to make the announcement.

"We stand together in this fight. #TeamMEA pledges to contribute around ₹ 1 Crore to #PMCaresFund launched by PM @narendramodi to support Government’s efforts to fight #COVID19 pandemic," he wrote on Twitter.

All officials of the ministry will donate their one day's salary while some are donating more than that voluntarily, news reports said.

Several political leaders, corporates, sportspersons and Bollywood personalities have donated significant amounts to the relief fund. 

The Indian Army, Air Force and the Navy, as well as the Ministry of Defense, have also decided to donate their one day salary. The amount totals around Rs 500 crore.

PM Cares is an emergency situation relief fund that was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday where people can contribute in the government's fight against coronavirus.
