A day after senior Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leader Jai Prakash Singh pitched Mayawati as prime ministerial candidate for 2019 Lok Sabha polls, the party supremo on Tuesday removed him from posts of party vice-president and national coordinator.

“I came to know about BSP National Coordinator Jai Prakash Singh’s speed in which he made personal remarks against the leadership of rival parties. It is his personal opinion and against the party’s ideology. He has been removed his post with immediate effect,” announced the BSP Supremo.

"In Uttar Pradesh and in other states as well, until an alliance with a party is announced, members of the BSP should refrain from speaking anything about alliance at any level. They should leave it to the High Command," Mayawati said.

During BSP coordinators’ meeting in Lucknow on Monday, Singh had stated that Rahul Gandhi was unfit for being the Prime Minister of the country due to Sonia Gandhi’s foreign origin. During the meeting, the BSP coordinator had announced that behenji, as Mayawati is popularly known, will be projected as India’s first Dalit Prime Minister to the run up to Lok Sabha polls. He claimed that Modi will be defeated by Mayawati.

The party sources claimed that Mayawati initiated the action against Singh as he went overboard in his brief and his statement may affect her efforts to enter into an alliance with the Congress in Madhya Pradesh, Chattisgarh and Rajasthan.

Sources claimed that his statement would have also been seen as a non-NDA partners fighting over their prime ministerial candidates even before forging an alliance for the 2019 Lok Sabha polls. The party is already in alliance with the Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh and Mayawati is making efforts to rope in Congress to make a mahagathbandhan of BSP, SP, RLD and the Congress in the state to check BJP.
