The Mathura Lok Sabha constituency is one of the 80 seats in Uttar Pradesh. The parliamentary seat is currently held by actor-turned-politician Hema Malini who won on a BJP ticket in 2014. She defeated sitting RLD MP Jayant Chaudhary by 3.30 lakh votes. Pt. Yogesh Kumar Dwivedi of the BSP was on the third position with 1.73 lakh votes.

While it was won by Congress' Manvendra Singh in 2004, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) held the Mathura seat from 1991-2004. In 2009, when Jayant Chaudhary won from here, his party RLD was contesting in an alliance with the BJP.

Famous for being the birthplace of Lord Krishna, the constituency is important for the BJP as it fits into its Hindutva narrative.

In 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP has again fielded Hema Malini who is facing Kuwar Narendra Singh of the RLD.

The Mathura Lok Sabha constituency is part of Mathura district in Uttar Pradesh, known as the birthplace of Lord Krishna and one of the holiest sites of Hindu religion. It comprises five Assembly constituencies - Chhata, Mant, Goverdhan, Mathura and Baldev.

UP is facing a three-pronged battle between the BJP, the Congress and BSP-SP-RLD alliance. Under the alliance's seat-sharing formula, the Mayawati-led Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) is contesting on 38 Lok Sabha seats of the total 80 seats, Akhilesh Yadav's Samajwadi Party on 37 seats and the Chaudhary Ajit Singh's Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) on three seats. The alliance has left two for Congress' Sonia Gandhi (Raebareli) and Rahul Gandhi (Amethi).

The polling in Mathura will be held in the second phase of Lok Sabha elections on April 18. The results of the Lok Sabha election 2019 will be declared on May 23.
