Ugly scenes at Kolkata Municipal Corporation, women councillors were also not spared.
A massive showdown ensued between the Congress, Left and Trinamool Congress councillors at the Kolkata Municipal Corporation House over the Narada news sting operation that showed several Trinamool Congress leaders accepting bribe.
Protests broke out amidst the Corporation session when Congress councillor Prakash Upadhyay hurled fake notes inside the House to mock the Trinamool Congress leaders. Immediately, Trinamool Congress councillors snatched the bundle of fake notes from Upadhyay and clashed with other councillors from the Congress and Left. Massive protests followed after the clashes broke out. Congress and Left councillors put up a demonstration outside the Mayor and Chairman’s office. Some councillors, who were attacked were spotted with torn clothes.
While councillors from the Congress and the Left claimed that they were attacked by the Trinamool Congress councillors, they maintain that they were attacked by opposition party’s councillors. Some female councillors also alleged that they were attacked by Trinamool Congress councillors.
“I have never seen something like this happen in my life. I cannot believe that the Trinamool Congress councillors attacked us and they turned so violent inside the House for protesting against the sting operation. They didn’t spare female councillors,” said Upadhyay.
Even the Kolkata Municipal Corporation, Sovan Chatterjee was not spared. Mayor faced protests from the agitators and received flak as he was one of the Trinamool Congress leaders allegedly seen in the video released by Narada news.
Meanwhile, the house was adjourned for the day as the councillors walked out.
