Pride filled the heart and eyes became moist when last post was sounded to pay homage to the fallen heroes of Keran on Friday,

Lance Naik Ranjit Singh and Rifleman Satish Bhagat sustained bullet injuries due to enemy fire from the other side of Line of Control while they were deployed at a forward post in the Keran Sector on Wednesday. The injured soldiers were immediately evacuated from the post, but they succumbed in the hospital.

Army on Friday paid befitting tributes to two fallen heroes at a solemn ceremony held at the 15 corps headquarters in Badami Bagh Cantonment here.

Leading the nation in paying the tributes to the martyrs was the Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti. She laid wreaths on the mortal remains and paid rich tributes to the fallen heroes.

General Officer Commanding of 15 corps Lieutenant General JS Sandh led the army to pay homage to the martyrs. In a show of solidarity, officials from the State government and other security agencies also joined in paying their last respects to the martyrs.

Lance Naik Ranjit Singh, 32 , had joined the Army in 2003 and hailed from Village Burn in Jammu. He is survived by his wife Neha Devi and two children. Hailing from Village Gurhasinghu of Jammu, the 22 year old Rifleman Satish Bhagat had donned the uniform in 2015. He is survived by his parents.

"The mortal remains of the martyrs were flown for last rites to their native places, where they would be laid to rest with full military honours. In this hour of grief, the Army stands in solidarity with the bereaved families of the martyrs and remains committed to their dignity and well being", said Colonel Rajesh Kalia, defence spokesman at Srinagar.

Pride and pain galore at their village when the mortal remains of the soldiers arrived on Friday afternoon. Entire village came out to receive the mortal remains of Lance Naik Ranjeet Singh. Such was his love for the country that he had volunteered to serve in Kashmir valley. Family members said though his two kids are in shock, his son wants to join the army and realize his father's dream.
