Days after the statue row sparked major outrage across country, senior BJP leader and Tripura in-charge Sunil Deodhar has condemned such acts and said that law and order will be first priority of the BJP government in the state.

Deodhar, who was in Pune, spoke to journalists about the strategy used by BJP to dislodge communist rule in the North-Eastern state and the agenda of new government.

While talking to mediapersons, Deodhar also said that many communists are keen on joining the BJP.

The national executive committee member of BJP said that, "After the election results, lot of members of communist party are approaching BJP but we have stalled enrolment of new members for six months to keep anti-social elements away from party as law and order is our top priority.’

Deodhar, who has been described as the chief architect of BJP's stunning victory in Tripura also said that, ‘The cadre of communist party cannot stay away from power. They use power to generate money for themselves and now since BJP has come in power, many of them are approaching us.’

‘We will be verifying their background like if they have any FIR registered against them. We want to do clean politics in the state which has seen lot of violence during communist rule and therefore we do not want enrol anyone who has criminal record as a party member," he added.

Deodhar also condemned the recent incident of razing of Lenin statues in Tripura. "I do not support any kind of violence. I condemned recent incidents (of razing of statues). The state has already suffered a lot due to the political violence done by communist party over the years and we will finish that political intolerance," he said.

Speaking about the road ahead for the new government, Deodhar stated that the party is looking forward to develop Tripura. "Law and order in the state will be our first priority as the state can progress only if the law and order is maintained. Along with that we will also be focusing on good governance. We are also looking to promote tourism in the state which was hugely neglected by the earlier government," he said.
