With Goa CM Manohar Parikkar resigning, Laxmikant Parsekar announced to be the  new CM.

BJP in Goa had faced a rebellion caused due to the run for the chief minister's post.

While peculations were strife in the morning that Health Minister Laxmikant Parsekar would be the front-runner to succeed Manohar Parrikar, Deputy CM Francis D'Souza had threatened to quit the government if he was not made the chief minister. He had reportedly cut his London trip short to make his demand.

"If I am not made the chief minister, I do not wish to continue in the government," D'Souza is reported to have said. He is backed by 12 BJP legislators which include three of Catholic legislators and two independents.

Apart from Parsekar there were three other contenders for the post for the party to pick from- state health minister Laxmikant Parsekar, Assembly Speaker Rajendra Arlekar and Deputy Chief Minister Francis D'Souza.

Parsekar, has a strong RSS background, just like the current Goa CM.
