Reiterating his government's resolve to get every single drop of the state's share in river waters through the Sutlej-Yamuna Link (SYL) canal, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Sunday asked the opposition not to politicise the issue.

Launching a veiled attack on Haryana's main opposition party INLD, which along with ally BSP, has launched a 'jail bharo' agitation on the SYL canal and other issues, Khattar criticised those offering court arrests and adopting agitational ways.

While asking the opposition not to politicise the issue, he said such tactics will not ensure that the state gets it share of water through the canal.

Khattar was addressing public meetings in villages of Siswal, Sadalpur and Balsamand in Adampur constituency in Hisar district.

He said the SYL canal is the lifeline of Haryana and the government is committed to get every single drop of its share in river waters through it. Khattar said the nearly four-year-old BJP government in Haryana has ensured equitable development, brought transparency in recruitment and curbed corruption.

He said, "A strong message has gone out that now jobs are given only on merit. This government represents 2.5 crore people of Haryana." "We believe in Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas," Khattar said said.

In a veiled attack on Congress leader and Adampur MLA Kuldeep Bishnoi, Khattar said while former chief minister Bhajan Lal had earned a name for himself in politics and social life, his son has emerged as a weak leader.

The chief minister claimed that as Adampur MLA, he had never raised issues of his constituency in the Haryana assembly.

"Not only that, his presence in the assembly was not more than 20 per cent. In this also his presence has been restricted to mere attendance," he said, without taking names.

Bishnoi is Bhajan Lal's younger son.
