The grappling for the chief minister’s post in Haryana isn’t as intense as it is in Maharashtra. however, despite some clarity on Manohar Lal Khattar’s candidature for the chief minister's post, a gamut of politicians is still optimistic for a last minute change.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA meet will take place in Chandigarh on Tuesday, where the formal announcement of the new cabinet, including the chief minister, will be made by the senior BJP leadership.
Apart from Khattar’s name, Ram Niwas Sharma, Anil Vij and Rao Inderjeet Singh’s names are also floating.
The only Jat leader Captain Abhimanyu Singh's candidature for the top seems to have taken a backseat, and if sources are to be believed, Abhimanyu Singh will get the portfolio of finance minister of Haryana.
If sources in the BJP are to be believed, Manohar Lal Khattar’s name is almost final whereas other CM hopefuls such as Ram Vilas Sharma and Anil Vij will get the portfolios of irrigation/power and excise/taxation respectively.
Rao Narbir Singh, MLA from Gurgaon Badshahpur constituency, is likely to get the portfolio of development and panchayat minister.
Chaudhary Birender Singh’s wife Premlata Singh who has defeated Chautala scion and Hisar MP, Dushyant Chautala is likely to get health and social welfare.
Chaudhary Birender Singh recently joined the BJP after a long run with the Congress. Singh wanted a Jat chief minister, and that’s why he also met the BJP senior leadership and advocated Captain Abhimanyu’s name.
