"I held talks with the Sports Minister a few days ago and we discussed on how we can promote women sports in the country," Gandhi said while speaking at a workshop on the recommendation of a High-Level Committee on ''Status of Women in India''.
Women and Child Development Ministry has taken upon the agenda of promoting women sports in the country with the help of Sports Ministry, Union Minister Maneka Gandhi said on . "I held talks with the Sports Minister a few days ago and we discussed on how we can promote women sports in the country," Gandhi said while speaking at a workshop on the recommendation of a High-Level Committee on ''Status of Women in India''.
"We do not know how to go about it but we would chalk out a suitable plan or strategy to take it further," she said while explaining the participating NGOs of the workshop to device and recommend similar concrete action plans which are more easy for the government to adopt.
She requested the experts to send short-term, medium-term and long-term proposals to generate a working roadmap from the discussions. "It is important to identify the practical ideas which can be implemented for women at the ground level, for example, ideas in women defence and skill development which will help to make a difference to everyday life of women," she said.
She highlighted the areas requiring action including legal aspects, new national policy on empowerment of women, financial inclusion, skill development, action under Swachh Bharat Mission, governance, media, inter-ministerial coordination, good practices and institutional changes among others. The participants gave several important suggestions like rape and crises centres at each block, prohibiting use of misogynist language against women especially in all public bodies, menstrual hygiene management programme, separate media policy for women and 50 per cent reservation for women in all political parties.
